Spinal Decompression

25 years ago, I was a weight lifter, thinking if I looked good, I could get all the chicks! Well, I was squatting 560 lbs and immediately, I started getting back and leg pain. It didn’t seem to be a big deal. A few days later, it felt better. I then went kayaking down some rapids. The next day the back pain was severe and radiated to my leg and foot. Again, 3 days later, the pain was all but gone. I then went for a 5 mile run after doing 150 sit-ups. Half way thru my run, I collapsed with unbearable back and leg pain. 2 months later I had back surgery.

For the next 23 years my low back pain limited my activity and also my ability to practice. If I got too active, I would then irritate my back to about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. I had to limit skiing and a lot of the things that I loved to do.

10 years ago, I ruptured 3 discs in my neck when I fell forward on the edge of a desk, hyper-extending my head backwards. This injury was so bad that not only did I have severe pain in my arm, but I lost some hand and arm function. The surgeon wanted to fuse 4 vertebrae together. After doing injections, my neck began to feel better, but there was always a nagging neck pain with an occasional migraine.

About 3 years ago, I was skiing (which I shouldn’t have) and hurt my mid back from an intense fall. My mid back pain was about a 7.

About 2 years ago I was driving when I was hit from the side. This re-irritated my neck and arm pain, giving me a pain level of 8-9.

I was hearing more and more about decompression and I thought… “if I could just be pulled apart”… so I bought a spinal decompression machine.

My personal experience with decompression was quite dramatic: Within 3 sessions, my severe mid back pain was gone. After 6 weeks, my low back pain was gone. After a few months, my neck had reached about 80% improvement. I am now able to enjoy skiing, mountain biking, and many other activities. As you can tell, I live for being active and having fun! Spinal decompression has done much to give me my life back after so many years!

Since I am a fellow sufferer of neck, mid, and low back disc pain, I feel it gives me an inside track on other peoples suffering...I have been there! I know what might help because I know what helped me. I found out from personal experience what works and what doesn’t.

It is important to appreciate the importance of personal experience. Most doctors or chiropractors treat these problems without really understanding your pain, so they can only begin to understand the frustration and desperation.

I have done my best to keep the cost of decompression as reasonable as possible. This treatment really does work for most. Yes, I have lost a few to surgery, but the lions share of my patients find the same relief that I have found.

What is Triton DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy?

DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy is FDA cleared and has a high success rate for pain associated with herniated or bulging discs...even after failed surgery. It is a non-surgical, traction based therapy for the relief of back and leg pain or neck and arm pain. During this procedure, by cycling through distraction and relaxation phases and by proper positioning, a spinal disc can be placed under negative pressure, causing a vacumm effect within it.

What can this vacuum effect do?

The vacuum effect accomplishes two things from a mechanical standpoint, disc material that has protruded or herniated outside the normal confines of the disc can be pulled back within the disc. Also, the vacuum within the disc stimulates growth of the blood supply, secondarily stimulating a healing response. This results in pain reduction and proper healing at the injured site.

How is Spinal Decompression Therapy different from regular traction?

The award winning Trion computer is the key. It controls the variations in the traction pull allowing for spinal decompression and eliminating muscle-guarding that is typical in conventional traction devices. The preprogrammed patterns for ramping up and down the amount of axial distraction allows for higher levels of spinal decompression and disc rehydration.

Who can benefit from Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Anyone who has back pain or neck pain caused in whole or in part by a damaged disc may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. These conditions included herniated, protruding or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica or radiculopathy (pinched nerves).

Are there medical studies that document he effectiveness of Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Yes! One study documented by MRI show that up to 90% reduction of disc herniations in 10 of 14 cases. Other studies reported that the majority of ruptured disc patients achieved "good" to "excellent" results after spinal decompression therapy.

Are there conditions where Spinal Decompression Therapy is not indicated?

Spinal Decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, patients who have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity or severe nerve damage. Spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal plates or "cages") is also not recommended. However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion surgery, can be performed.

Are the sessions painful and how many will be needed?

In almost all cases, the treatments are completely painless. In fact, some patients fall asleep during the spinal decompression session. The specific treatment plan will be determined by your examination. Based on current research , the best results have been achieved utilizing 10 sessions over a 6-week period.

Do most patients receive therapy and rehabilitative exercises in addition to Spinal Decompression Therapy?

To reduce inflammation and assist the healing process, the supporting structures are treated with passive therapies (ice/heat/muscle stimulation), chiropractic adjustments (as indicated) and/or active rehabilitation in order to strengthen the spinal musculature.
